Diplodocus was a giant dinosaur. It was about 90 feet long. Its neck was 26 feet long and its tail was 45 feet long. Diplodocus weighed 20,000 to 40,000 pounds. It had a small head. Its nostrils were on the top of its head. It had flat teeth in the front of its mouth, and no teeth on the sides or in the back of its mouth. Its front legs were shorter than its back legs. It had five toes on each foot. One toe on each foot had a claw.

The Diplodocus moved around in groups. They walked very slowly. They laid eggs. They did not make a nest, they laid eggs in a line as they walked along. They did not take care of their babies. Diplodocus had a very small brain and was not smart.

Diplodocus lived 155 to 145 million years ago. That time was called the Jurassic period. Other dinosaurs that lived at the same time were Camarasaurus, Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Allosaurus. Bones of Diplodocus have been found the United States in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
